Disconnect the leads from the battery.
Remove all front grilles (51 13 070).
Remove the main coolant radiator (17 11 000).
When installing: On the BMW 2500, 2800 and 2800 CS
a tropical radiator must be installed if air conditioning
equipment is required.
Remove right headlights with support frame.

Remove fresh air outlet grill cover (64 11 290).
Place the evaporator base plate in the installed position on
the transmission tunnel, and drill a 10 mm (0.4 in.) hole
for condensate drainage into the tunnel.

Place the sealing rubber on the transmission tunnel and
install the evaporator baseplate.

Drill the holes for the coolant hoses to pass through the
bulkhead.
Cut away the foam rubber behind the glove box.

A	270 mm (10.63 in.)	D	30 mm (1.18 in.) dia.
B	25 mm (1 in..)	E	35 mm (1.4 in.) dia.
C	67 mm (2.64 in.)

Drill holes for vibration damper, 6 mm (0.24 in.) dia.,
and for retaining clip (4), 4mm (0.16 in.) dia.

A	80mm (3.15 in.)	C	25 mm (1 in.)
B	35 mm (1.4 in.)	D	155 mm (6.1 in.)

Install rubber mounting and retaining clip for vibration
damper.

Drill holes for dehumidifier attachment and coil series
resistor.

A	50 mm (2 in.)	C	95 mm (3.75 in.)
B	55 mm (2.2 in.)	D	115 mm (4.5 in.)

Install coil series resistor and retainer for dehumidifier
with retaining clip.

Attach the vibration damper.
Make sure the screw connections are parallel to the side
panel.

Fit in drier bottle.
Position drier bottle so that connection openings are parallel
to the side panel.
Important: Take off sealing caps only shortly before fitting
on refrigerant hoses, as otherwise humidity will get
into the drier bottle (dreier bottle cannot be used anymore).

Unscrew bolts in vibration damper.
Important: On the front side of the vibration damper
there must be a recess of 2 mm (0.07874"), so as to provide
sufficient distance from the V-belt pulley. Fasten V-belt pulley
and vibration damper by means of M 8 x 45 bolts. Assembly
is only possible in one position.

Important: V-belt pulleys with recesses reaching to the running
surface must not be used.
A = correct pulley B = must not be used.

Pre-assemble compressor support.

Important:
To avoid noises, grind off holding eye on engine block
by approx. 5 mm (0.1968").
Screw pre-assembled compressor support onto engine
block.
Fit bolts in at front.

Fit bolts in on side.

Fasten compressor to swivel plate.

Fit on V-belt and tighten.

Insert the rubber grommets into the bulkhead, with the
smaller diameter to the front.

Coat the rubber grommets with glycol.
Push through the coolant hoses into the engine
compartment.
The 90° angled sections should be on the passenger
compartment side.
The 24 mm (0.95 in.) hose is at the bottom and the 20 mm
(0.79 in.) hose at the top.

Connect the coolant lines to the compressor.
The 24 mm (0.95 in.) dia. hose to the suction valve (S).
The 20 mm (0.79 in.) dia. hose to the pressure valve (D).
Warning: First coat the threads with low-temperature oil.
Use ovly new copper sealing rings.

To assist in tightening the unions, cut open a 27 mm ring
spanner as shown.

Connect the coolant lines.
1 Dehumidifier to base of condensor
2 Vibration damper to of condensor
3 Compressor suction valve to evaporator
4 Compressor pressure valve to vibration damper
5 Dehumidifier to - evaporator

Attach rubber to opening in front panel with adhesive,
and pass the coolant lines through the opening.

Layout of the hoses:

1 from condensor to dehumidifier
2 from condensor to vibration damper
3 from evaporator base to suction valve
4 from pressure valve to vibration damper
5 from dehumidifier to evaporator top
6 Dehumidifier
7 Vibration damper

When detaching or re-installing the coolant lines, coat
all threads with antifreeze compound or low-temperature
oil, and do not re-use old copper seals.

Attach left mounting bracket for condensor.

Attach right mounting bracket.

Attach left and right mounting brackets for auxiliary
blower.

Run the cable to the auxiliary blower relay from the
battery along the main cable harness.

Install the condensor.
Connect the coolant lines.

Make the electrical connections from the compressor to
the relay (see wiring diagram).

Install the auxiliary blower.

Install the cable for the auxiliary blower and connect to
relay (see wiring diagram).

Connect the cable from the relay to the evaporator at the
relay and run along the coolant hose as fas as the evaporator.

Screw the relay to the wheel arch.
Distance A from coil = 20 mm (0.8 in.).

Attach evaporator to baseplate.
For installing procedure, see 'Evaporator - Removing
and installing', 64 51 020.
Connect coolant lines to evaporator.
Run the cable from the auxiliary blower relay along the
coolant line.

After the system has been filled, the two threaded unions
must be insulated with No-Tape strip to prevent the
formation of water condensate.

Install the changeover the relay above the other relays.
Pass the cables to the evaporator behind the steering
column.
The changeover relay switches off the normal heater
blower when the air conditioning system is in operation.

Remove the fuse box, pull off the green-brown cable (1)
from fuse 9 and attach to terminal 87a of the changeover
relay.
Use the short green-brown cable (2) to connect
terminal 30 of the changeover relay to fuse 9.
Connect green-blue cable (3) to fuse 8.

Connect the yellow-green cable to the right at the base
of the evaporator and the black-white cable to the left.

Connect the brown and the black-white cables from the
blower motor to the cables of the same color on the main
harness.

Install the temperature detector switch at the top and the
blower switch at the bottom of the front cover.

Attach the multi-pin plug (1) to the blower switch and
the black cable (2) from the blower switch to the cable
harness.
Connect the black cable (3) from the cable harness to the
temperature switch and the black cable (4) from the
auxiliary blower relay to the temperature switch.
