Brake pads may be worn down to a thickness A = 2 mm (0.08 in.). Remove (install) rear brake pads (34 21 200). Always renew all 4 brake pads at the same time. Use only genuine replacement brake pads¹). Note colour coding (B)¹). Warning: Use brake linings of the same make on both front and rear axles. 34 21 200 ¹) See technical data.

Clean out fixed calliper with a narrow brusth. The new brake pads must move freely inside the fixed caliper. | ![]() |
Push the piston fully back into the fixed calliper with piston return pliers 3.9314-1800.2. Note: When this is done, brake fluid level in the reservoir will rise. | ![]() |
Check 20° angle setting of piston with piston gauge (3.9314-0.600.1). The 20 cutout on the piston must be ad- jacent to the point where the brake disc enters the fixed caliper. An incorrect piston setting will cause: a) shake, b) squeak- ing, c) incorrect contact between brake pad and disc. | ![]() |
Repositioning of the piston to obtain the correct 20 set- ting is carried out with the piston rotating pliers (3.9314-1500.2). | ![]() |
Warning: New brake pads should be bedded in for 600 km (375 miles) under normal running conditions. Try to avoid emergency brake applications at high speed. If these precautions are not observed, the brake pads will not attain their most favourable wear and friction coef- ficients. When installing: Depress the brake pedal several times until the brake pads are touching the brake disc. |
