When the brake shoe thickness is reduced to 3 mm (0.12 in.) the shoes must be relined. Always reline all four rear brake shoes at the same time. Remove the brake shoes (34 21 040). Drill out the rivets and remove the old linings. When installing: The lining¹) must seat correctly on the brake shoe and must not protrude at the sides. Insert the rivets in the sequence 1 ÷ 5. After the brake shoes have been relined the brakes must be re-adjusted. Release the handbrake. With special wrench 6038, turn the left wheel adjusting cam anti-clockwise and the right wheel cam clockwise until the brake shoes prevent the wheel from turning. Then back off the adjusting cams by about 1/8 turn of the screws until the wheel just turns freely. | ![]() |
