A) Version with 40% locking action Remove crown wheel. Note when fitting: Fit on crown wheel cold (i. e. without heating). Make sure that the bolt threads are perfectly clean. When screwing in bolts, use Loctite-AVV. | ![]() |
Unscrew fastening bolts on housing cover. When these bolts have been removed, screw in two M 6 x 30 bolts to force housing cover off the housing. | ![]() |
Turn housing upside down so that multiple-disc unit slides out. If necessary, knock slightly on the housing. | ![]() |
Remove contact ring from rear axle side gear. Note when fitting: Make sure that the oil grooves on the contact ring face towards the bottom of the differential housing. The contact rings are used to adjust the frictional value of the bevel gears. | ![]() |
Take off intermediate ring (1), outer disc (2) and inner disc (3) coated with molybdenum. Note when fitting: The inner dics are used to adjust the clearance¹) between the multiple-dics unit and the differential housing when assembled. Coat all bearing surfaces with Molykote paste G or LM 348. ¹) see Specifications.

As the differential housing has been modified to allow space for the intermediate ring, it is not permissible to fit such a ring in another housing. The modified housing is marked by a groove at the bottom. inside 3.5 ÷ 4.9 mm (0.18898") previously 27.3 ÷ 29.1 mm (1.0748 ÷ 1.1456") Note position of individual parts when fitted (version with rhombus pattern): Thrust body (1), outer disc (2), rhombus disc (3), smooth inner discs (4) and (5), rhombus disc (6), outer disc (7). Important: If the limited-slip differential causes any noise, replace the rhombus and inner discs by inner discs coated with molybdenum when carrying out repair, and use additional outer discs as packing material. Like on version with intermediate ring, adjust clearance when fitted¹) by means of the inner discs. Lift off the thrust ring. | ![]() |
Remove the rear axle shaft pionon. | ![]() |
Remove the differential pinions complete with shafts. Continue to take down the differential as described above. | ![]() |
Examine all components for score marks. The thrust rings must move freely in the housing. The guide lugs on the thrust ring and the outer plates must not be distorted or worn. The inner plates must move easily on the splines. The splines must not be damaged or worn. Replace worn thrust washers and plates. When installing; Measure depth (A) of housing. | ![]() |
Install the plate set on the housing cover and preload to 100 kp (220 Ibs). Measure installed length (B) down to housing cover. Adjust installed clearance¹) between A and B with inner plates of suitable thickness. ¹) See technical data.

Insert the complete plate set into the housing. The oil grooves on the thrust washer must face the housing cover. | ![]() |
Attach the housing cover with the crownwheel. Check operation: With one rear axle shaft pinion prevented from turning, the other should turn when not more than 50 cmkp load is applied. | ![]() |
Adjust the friction loading with the thrust washers (1). | ![]() |
B) Version with 25% locking action Unscrew housing cover fastening bolts. Take off housing cover. | ![]() |
Turn housing upside down and let contents slide out. If necessary, knock slightly on the housing. | ![]() |
1 cover, 2 disc with protruding edge, 3 plate spring, 4 contact ring, 5 plate spring, 6 outer disc, 7 inner disc, 8 thrust ring, 9 rear axle side gear, 10 differential bevel pinion, 11 differential axle, 12 housing. Check all of the parts for scouring. Make sure that the thrust rings have freedom of movement in the housing. It is also important to ensure that the leading projections on the thrust rings and outer discs are not distorted. The inner discs must be fiffed in such a way that they have freedrom of movement on the serrated surface. The teeth must not be damaged in any way. Make it a rule to replace worn contact rings and discs. Fit the parts into the housing in the following order: Outer discs (6), inner discs (7), thrust rings (8), rear axle side gears (9), differential gears (10) and differential axle (11). | ![]() |
Measure clearance A from edge of housing to outer disc. Example: A = 8.7 mm (0.34252"). | ![]() |
Measure clearance B on cover. Example: 3.5 mm (0.1378"). | ![]() |
Place plate springs on each other so that convex and concave surfaces fit together. Measure clearance C of plate springs. Example: C = 5.0 mm (0.19685"). | ![]() |
To make sure that the plate springs do not bear on the block with any initial tension, fit with a clearance of 0.1 ÷ 0.4 mm (0.00394 ÷ 0.01575"). B (cover) 3.5 mm (0.1378"). C (plate spring) + 5.0 mm (0.1968") ----------------------------- 8.5 mm (0.3346") A (housing) 8.7 mm (0.34252") total of B + C - 8.5 mm (0.3346") ----------------------------- clearance D when fitting 0.2 mm (0.0079") ----------------------------- If the clearance measured deviates from prescribed clearance D, use outer disc (1) with necessary thickness to correct such deviation. | ![]() |
Take all the parts out of the housing. Refit in the following order: Fit in disc (2) with the smooth side facing towards the housing. Then fit in plate spring (3) with the concave surface facing towards the differential axle. Make sure that when fitting contact ring (4) the oil cavities face upwards. | ![]() |
Fit in plate spring (5) with the concave surface facing towards the differential axle. Then fit in outer disc (6) and inner disc (7). | ![]() |
Fit in thrust ring (8). Fit rear axle side gear (9) into position by turning on the serration of the inner disc. | ![]() |
Fit in differential bevel pinions (10) together with differential axles (11). | ![]() |
Fit in rear axle side gear (9) and thrust ring (8). | ![]() |
Fit in inner disc (7), outer disc (6) and plate spring (5) with the concave surface facing towards the differential axle. | ![]() |
Fit in contact ring (4) with the oil cavities facing towards the differential axle. Fit in plate spring (3) with the concave surface also facing towards the differential axle. Fit in disc (2) with the smooth side facing upwards. | ![]() |
Fit on cover (1) and turn until the protrusion on disc (2) comes to rest in the groove. Tighten the fastening bolts for cover (1) to an equal torque. | ![]() |
Check locking action of limited-slip differential by holding one rear axle side gear tight and applying drive power on the other. The gear should not slip before a torque of 5 ÷ mkp (36.15 ÷ 57.84m ft Ib) is reached. | ![]() |
