Checking torque converter is vehicle:
Engine and transmission oils must be at operating tem-
perature.
Engine must produce its full effective output.
Start engine.
Pull the hand brake lever, depress brake pedal hard.
Move the selector lever to R or 1; press the accelerator
pedal to full throttle.
Read the stall speed¹ on the tachometer.
Caution! Because of the danger from overheating never
test the stall speed longer than 10 seconds.
Stall speed well above the reference value¹:
a) Converter not filled sufficiently - correct oil level.
b) Clutches slip - check clutches.
Stall speed well below the reference value¹:
a) Store one-way clutch slips - replace torque converter.

The oil cooler lines must be disconnected if the converter
pressure (3) is checked with tester 24 0 000 or 24 0 020.
Mount the adapter 24 0 027 and elbow pipe 24 0 024 on
the converter housing and connect to tester 24 0 000 or
24 0 020.
Insert the plug 240 028 in the oil cooler feed connection (4).

Remove torque converter - see 24 40 000.
The torque converter cannot be cleaned with normal work-
shop facilities, and it must be replaced in the case of
transmission damage or a torn oil filter screen.
