Pull out front clutch. Front clutch (1), thrust washer (2), support disc (3). Caution! Insert support disc (3) that the flats in its bore are in the flats in the hub. | ![]() |
Remove rear clutch (4). | ![]() |
Pull shaft (5) with needle bearing (6 small needles) and (7 large needles ) out of clutch. Note when fitting: Replace the teflon rings (A) each time the unit is disassembled. Check flexibility of seal (B); re- place a hard seal. | ![]() |
Disassemble front clutch. Lift out snap ring (8). Drive shaft (9), support disc (10), disc carrier (11), lining discs (12). Note when fitting: Open end of disc carrier faces the piston. Outer discs (13), outer disc (14) with smooth side facing the lining disc. Note when fitting: Replace any lining discs which have gone black from overheating. Place new lining discs in ATF having a temperature of 70° C (158° F) for about 20 minutes. Caution! Only use the red Ferodo MP 2 D linings for 3.3 L. | ![]() |
Remove circlip (15), spring disc (16), support ring (17) and piston (18). Note when fitting: The ends of the spring disc on the inside diameter must rest on the support ring. | ![]() |
Removing piston (18): Insert the forward sun gear in the clutch housing so that the bore between both teflon rings is located in the annular groove. Now remove the piston carefully with compressed air. | ![]() |
Version without spring discs:@@L Note when fitting: Replace oil seal (19). Check ball (20) must move freely. Replace oil seal (21). | ![]() |
Install piston (18) with tool 7037. | ![]() |
Version with spring discs:@@L Note when fitting: Replace oil seal (19). Check valve ball (20) must move freely. Replace gasket (22). Check all 6 spring discs (23) for wear. | ![]() |
Place gasket (22) in the housing with its open end facing down. Note location of spring discs (23). Convex of first spring disc faces down. Install the subsequent spring discs with their convexes facing each other, i.e. alternately up and down. | ![]() |
Install piston (18) with tool 7073. | ![]() |
Disassembling rear clutch: Circlip (1), final ring (2) - smooth end faces lining disc, grooved lining discs (3), outer discs (4). Caution! Outer discs are cup-shaped. The convexes of all outer discs (4) must point in one direc- tion. Note when fitting: Replace any lining discs which have gone black from overheating. Place new lining discs in ATF having a temperature of 70° C (158° F) for about 20 minutes. | ![]() |
Use tool 7032 to tension the piston spring for removal and installation; lift out circlip (1). | ![]() |
Release piston spring. Remove spring retainer (2) and spring (3) of piston. Remove piston from clutch housing carefully with com- pressed air. Note when fitting: Replace the teflon rings (A) each time the unit is disassembled. | ![]() |
Replace oil seal (4). Check valve ball (5) must move freely. Replace oil seal (6). The needle bearing (7) can be removed with an internal extractor and replaced. | ![]() |
