Remove transmission - see 24 00 020.
Caution! Before installation of an exchange transmission
always clean the oil cooler and lines with compressed air
and then flush them twice with clear gasoline, petroleum
or automatic transmission fluid.
The 3-HP-20 transmission for BMW 2.5 ltr./2.8 ltr. models dif-
fers in torque converter ratio and torque converter dia-
meter.
Identification of torque converters:
BMW 2.5 ltr. Blue colour code
Number code 001 101
BMW 2.8 ltr. Yellow colour code
Number code 002 101
Remove transport holder (1).

Transmission identification on transmission cover:
BMW 2.5 ltr. = 001 or 006
BMW 2.8 ltr. = 003 or 007
The number listed below these is the consecutive running
transmission number.

Take linkage as switches from old transmission for the
selector lever.
After installation of the transmission adjust the selector
lever switch by loosening the screws (1 and 2) so that with
the selector lever (3) fully engaged the particular range
lights up in the instrument.

Take exhaust carrier (4) and transmission mount (5) from
the old transmission.

Take old dowel sleeve (6) for centering the engine/trans-
mission assembly.
Remove transport plugs for oil cooler connection.
Install oil seal (7).
