Detach battery minus cable.
Disconnect multiple plug.

Detach accelerator cable and take off of holder.
Note when fitting: Adjust accelerator cable - see 24 00 004.

Loosen oil filler neck at exhaust manifold.
Remove entire exhaust system - see 18 00 020.
Drain oil.
Take oil filler neck off of oil pan.
Insert a plug in the opening.
Caution! Never reuse drained oil.
Note when fitting: The transmission must be disassembled,
if the oil has a burnt odor and a black discolouration. If the
oil has a silver-grey glow, this concerns aluminium or iron
dust. In contradiction to iron, aluminium cannot be held by
magnets.

Detach the feed hose (1) and return hose (2) for the oil
cooler.
Unscrew mounting bracket on engine block.

Remove mounting screws (2 and 3).
Loosen screw (4).
Swing down the guard.

Remove grille.
Detach torque converter at the drive shell (4 screws).

Detach the selector rod (5) at the selector lever and the
Jurid hardy disc at the driven flange.
Caution! To make sure that there is no tension in the
Jurid hardy disc, never tighten the screws, but instead the nuts.
Note spacers.

Loosen threaded bush (6).
Remove centre bearing.
Note when fitting: Pre-load the centre bearing holder by

2 mm (0.079") in driving direction.

Bend down the propeller shaft and pull the centering bear-
ing off of the centering journal.
Note when fitting: Be careful not to damage the cap.
Check centering for ease of movement, lubricating with
longterm 2 if necessary.

Support the transmission with a trolley jack and attachment
7044.
Pull off stop pad (7).
Remove speedometer shaft (8).
Detach the cross member at the body.

Lower the transmission for enough that the engine oil pan
rests on the front axle carrier.
Remove all mounting bolts.
Note when fitting: Screws (9 and 10) are for the transmis-
sion switch wire holder and screws (11) is for the breather
line/oil filler neck clamp.
Disconnect the breather line (12) on the transmission.

Lift the transmission.
Place a wooden board between the front axle carrier and
oil pan.
Lower the transmission.
Pull the transmission off of the engine and also press off
the torque converter.

Note when fitting: The torque converter is positioned cor-
rectly if the drive shell mounting is located below the
converter housing. If this is not the case, guide both claws
of the torque converter into the slots of the primary pump
by turning slightly.
Lubricate the converter journal.

Note when fitting: Check drive shell for cracks, replacing
if necessary.
Apply holder 7007 to flywheel when replacing.
