E) Synchromesh
The synchromesh rings for gears 1 ÷ 4 are the same.
Pull off drive shaft.
Remove synchromesh ring (1) and needle bearing (2).
Note: Mark synchromesh ring for each gear.

Remove locking ring (3).
Remove shim (4).

Pull off synchromesh unit with sliding sleeve (5), synchro-
mesh ring (6), 3. gear (7), spacer (8)¹) and retainer ring (9).
Note: Mark synchromesh ring for each gear.
¹) If needle bearing is 29.55 mm (1.1634") wide, no spacer.

Force out output drive shaft.
Assembly position of individual parts:
Spacer ring (10), needle retainer ring (11), 2. gear (12),
synchronizing ring (13), synchromesh unit with sliding sleeve
(14), synchronizing ring (15), 1. gear (16), needle retainer
ring (17), spacer ring (18), spacer sleeve (19), reverse gear
(20), bearing support (21), shim (22), grooved ball bearing
(23), support disc (24) and speedometer worm (25).
Important: Mark synchronizing rings for gear.

Important: The synchronizing rings must be replaced if the
gap between synchronizing ring and clutch element is less
than 0.8 mm (0.0315").
Measure gap at stop dogs.
With new synchronizing rings the gap must be 1.0 mm
(0.0394").

Disassemble synchromesh unit.
Spring (1), pressure piece (2), and ball (3).

Note when assembling:
Insert all springs, pressure pieces and balls.
The chamfered side of the pressure pieces must face
towards the synchromesh unit.
Insert synchromesh unit half-way in the sliding sleeve.
Press balls in until synchromesh unit can be pressed into
the sliding sleeve.
