Remove complete exhaust system 18 00 020.
Remove and install gear lever 25 11 000.
Disconnect propeller shaft.
When installing: Do not damage sealing cap.
Check centring for free movement; if necessary apply
Longterm 2 grease.
Important: To avoid trapped stress in the Guibo coupling,
tighten the nuts, never the bolts.

Loosen the threaded journal.
Remove the center bearing block.
Press propeller shaft away from gearbox.
When installing: Preload center bearing block in direction
of travel (A = 2 mm; 0.08 in).

Remove speedometer drive pinion.
Detach cables at reversing light switch.

Inside clutch operating mechanism:
Detach clutch slave cylinder.
When installing: Note correct installed position, with lose
connection facing down.

Separate gearbox from clutch housing at flange.

Support engine between front axle mountings.
Loosen rubber bearing on gearbox.
Remove cross-member.

Pull out gearbox slightly.
Lift spring over spherical pin collar.
When installing: Angular seal (1) must be between spheri-
cal pin and throwout arm.

Inside clutch operating mechanism:
When installing: Move throwout arm to correct position
with slave cylinder. Align throwout bearing. Grease guide
sleeve and groove in throwout bearing with Longterm 2.
Select a gear before attaching gearbox.
Carefully insert gearbox guide sleeve into thrust bearing.
Turn the output flange until the input shaft slides into the
driving plate. Remove the clutch slave cylinder again.
Fasten the gearbox into position.
