Remove solenoid - see 12 41 511.
Remove mounting screws (1).
Remove dust cap (2).
Take off lockwasher (3), shims (4) and seal (5).
Note when fitting: Use shims (4) to adjust armature
axial play to 0.1 to .0.15 mm (0.004 to 0.006").

Loosen pole housing screws (6), pull cap (7).
Lift out plus brushes (8) and remove carbon brush holder (9).
Note when fitting: Note location of carbon brush holder
(9). The pole housing screws (6) must be placed through locating slots
into the carbon brush holder (9). Guide exciter winding wire through
rubber seal. Check commutator bearing.

Detach pole housing at drive bearing.
Loosen intermediate bearing screws (10).
Note when fitting: Note locating of pole housing. Groove
in pole housing faces rubber tab. Secure screws (10) with Loctite
Code No. 270.

Remove rubber seal (11)¹ and disc (12)¹.
Loosen locating screw (13) for engaging lever.
Note when fitting: Tabs of disc (12) and rubber seal (11) face
the armature.

Pull armature out of drive bearing.
Remove engaging lever (14).
Note when fitting: Install the engaging lever (14) that the
engaging rin (15) is located between the tabs of the engaging lever.
Lubricate engaging lever with Bosch Silicone Grease Ft 2 v 3.

Press thrust ring (16) back.
Lift out circlip (17).
Pull off starter gear (18) and bracket (19)¹.
Note when fitting: Apply a coat of Bosch Silicone Grease
Ft 2 v 3 to the coars threads, engaging ring and intermediate bearing.
Pull thrust ring (16) over the circlip (17).
