An exact ignition timing adjustment requires perfect contact
breaker points, a correctly set dwell angle - see 12 11 141 - and
an engine at operating temperature.
Disconnect vacuum hose for advance ignition (1).
Also disconnect vacuum hose (2) for vacuum boxes with retarded
ignition.

A) Carburettor engine
Increase the engine speed to 1700 rpm with screw (1).
Coution! After successful adjustment of the ignition timing
loosen the control screw (1) until there is a play between the shaft
and stop.

B) Fuel injection engine
Increase engine speed¹ with the speed booster 12 1 070 for
version with an air flow sensor or with 12 1 060 for version
with a pressure sensor.
¹ 2500 rpm for version with pressure sensor
1800 rpm for version with air flow sensor

Switch off advance angle gauge on strovoscope lamp.
Aim stroboscope lamp at ball mark² on flywheel.
Turn the distributor until the indicator point on the clutch housing
housing aligns with center of ball mark.
Also check engines with retarded ignition advance.
Connect vacuum hoses.
A 1000 rpm TDC mark must be seen in inspection hole.
² For automatics: long pin = ignition timing
short pin = TDC
