Reground crankshaft are identified by paint stripes. The new bearing shells must be matched to the correspon^^ding bearing journal diameter, that is to say the same red or blue color code spots must be present on both bearing shells and crankshaft. Note:Modified cranshaft bearing shells now habe oil pockets (2) , and only this type shoud be used for repairs. | ![]() |

Check bearing play¹ with Plastigage Type PG 1. a) Check each bearing separately. b) The bearing surface must be oil-dry. c) take the measurement at crankshaft top or bottom dead center. d) Tighten the bearing cap to the prescribed torque¹. e) Do not disturb the crankshaft while measuring. f) Read off bearing play¹ by comparing the width of the compressed plastic strip with the reference scae.
