Remove upper gearbox cover - see 11 14 100.
Remove chain tensioner piston - 11 31 090.
Remove fan coupling - 11 52 020.
Loosen alternator.
Remove v-belt and pilley.

Remove the cover plate.
Lock the flywheel with tool 6069.
On automatic transmission, use tool 6069-1.

Remove front Panel apron 51 47 490.
Unscrew nut¹ and pull off vibration damper with hub.

Warning:Note correct installed position of key (1).

When installing:If hub is severely scored, insert sealing
ring so that sealing lip makes contact in front of or behind the
scored area.

Remove screws from timing case cover and oil sump.

Loosen remaining screws on oil sump, but do not remove.

Carefully part the oil sump gasket from the timing case cover
with a knife blade.

If the oil sump gasket is damaged, remove the sump 11 13 000.

Take off the timing case cover.

When installing:Coat the joint faces between oil sump
and crankcase with Atmosit or Curil K 2.

Warning:The pick web for the tensioner piston must
be located in the oil pocket.
