Remove cylinder head cover - see 11 12 000.

Remove thermostat housing cover.

Note when fitting: Replace gasket.

Take out thermostat.

Caution! Oil seal.
Note when fitting: Bracket on thermostat faces
in direction of driving.

Bleed cooling system - see 17 00 039.

Remove distributor cap and disconnect wire 1.

Move piston in cylinder 1 to TDC.

Speed governor points to notch on distributor housing.

Disconnect vacuum hoses.

On engines with double-action vacuum boxes it is hose A
to front carburetor next to the idle cut-off valve, to the left
as seen in driving direction, and hose B to the front
carburetor next to the idle cut-off valve, to the right as
seen in driving direction.

Loosen gearbox cover.

Note when fitting: Tighten bolts 1 and 2 slightly.

Then bolts 3 trough 8 one after the other and finally 1 and 2.

Remove gearbox cover with sprocket (1).
If cylinder head gasket is damaged, remove cylinder head
and replace gasket - see 11 12 100.

The cylinder head gasket has two additional bores to
improve the seal between the cylinder head and gearbox cover.
Coution! Fill bores with Dirko sealing compound before
installation of gearbox cover.
For cylinder head gaskets without bores apply a coat of Curil K 2 or
Atmosit to the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and gearbox cover.

Speed governor faces notch on distributor housing.
Attach gearbox cover with sprocket (1).
Check ignition timing - see 12 11 004.
